Self-made welding protection curtain (mobile and fold-able)

I wanted to buy a welding curtain for a long time, but the commercial ones take up a lot of space when not in use, as the fabric is usually stretched in a frame and therefore cannot simply be stored in a corner. Since I couldn't find anything that met my expectations, I welded a construction myself that is flexible and leaves nothing to be desired.

First I welded these parts together from square tubes and round and flat steel profiles.

Then I painted the parts and can now start assembling them.

Now the missing blind rivet nuts are put in place …

… to mount all 4 wheels.

On the top I screwed a beech wood plate. It looks nicer and I have the possibility to place additional weight on it, should the stability be critical later on. In the end, additional weight was not necessary.

Here you can see the principle of my construction. In the middle there is a bar that will later be inserted into the mobile foot. At the upper end there is a joint on both sides to swivel the two sides into the horizontal position. Further out, there is another joint with which the outer arm can be moved forwards.

Mounted on the base, the left side is still folded and the right side erected.

With the welding protection cover mounted, the whole thing looks like this when folded up. The welding protection blanket is hung on the 4-sided profile with 7 butcher's hooks. The base area that my construction occupies is 40 x 50 cm.

Now you can see the whole thing in the fully extended state. My welding protection ceiling has a size of 6' x 10'.

Now I have the possibility to have a protection on the side as well by bending both ends (about 60 cm long) by 90 degrees. Even in this state, the stability is good, so I don't need to place any additional weight on the base.

The two lateral arms are supported by a round profile that can move with a hinge at the top …

… and is simply plugged into a short piece of tube at the middle column.

When erected, it looks like this.

At the outer ends I welded a flat profile with holes so that the welding protection curtain can be easily stretched and the outer hooks do not move towards the middle.

I made the hinges simply with 2 flat profiles.

The whole thing is of course height adjustable with this simple bolt.
