Ford Model A Pickup Restoration - Replacing rotten ash wood of the cabin (January 2009)
The first month is over and I have bought many missing items for my old leather seat. I want to restore it myself and therefore I'll need some tools but also hemp cords, threads and other things. During the last month I have already used half a liter of my special oil to get the leader more flexible. Actually I have stopped that treatment, otherwise I will become problems when I have to glue it or finally to apply a new color coat.
The temperature in my garage is still cold, I would prefer a warmer climate.
That's the lower part of my cabin, where it is connected to the frame. All the rotten parts I've removed and now I can fit a piece of ash wood.
The piece fits, next I will glue it together and afterwards, I will cut it to the right shape.

Since I must have a 5 mm and a 10 mm plate, I first cutted the board in two pieces with a motor saw.
This is the final result after I used the planing machine.
On the seat frame I have to replace the hemp cord all over.
A lot of the cords are damaged.
Finally a hint if you are riveting an aluminum rivet and you don't have a riveting set. You can easily make one of your own. Just take a carbide cutter and make such a hole in a piece of steel. Now you can hold it at the rear side of the rivet and hammer the end to a round shape like with an original riveting set.
