Ford Model A Pickup Restoration - Copy of bar key for trunk (August 2018)Since a long time I wanted to make a spare key for the trunk and was searching for a matching key.
Some month ago I found a complete key chain and they look just like mine. The coding is of course not yet matching (would have been too easy …), so there is still some work to do.
First I made a counterpart with the help of my original key. For this I use a 2 mm aluminum sheet, drill the hole and file with a needle file until the original key fits into it.
Now comes the processing of the new key. First, I apply enough material to the beard with welding and then start bringing the beard into shape. I use a file in a first step and then the Dremel with attached cutting disc. Now follows grinding, see where material must be removed, until the new key fits exactly into the aluminum sheet.
Then make a final test at the lock and here you see my new key. For my next visit in the galvanic shop, I'll let it nickel-plated (dull) like my other key.
