Ford Model A Pickup Restoration - Self-build ramps - Dehumidifier cushion treatment (October 2018)My homemade car ramps are making progress but this month I had to do another job for the winter.
The individual parts of the 4 car ramps are welded and grounded.
This is how they are welded together later. But first, I need dried dehumidifier pillows like this one.
Such air dehumidifier pillows I use in winter because of increased humidity in my garage and I put them into the cabin of the Ford. The content is made of silica gel or natural granules and absorbs moisture.
To regenerate (dry) them, the user manual says that you should put the bag on the heater. Unfortunately, there is nothing written about the duration because heating them on the heater is a bad joke. You have to wait for years until they will be dry, at least my bags have lost no single gram of weight during 4 weeks on the heater. For this reason, I have decided to cut the bag and dry the granules directly in the oven.
On an old baking plate - it is not from my wife, I used it already in the garage :-) I distribute the contents over the plate and put the it into the oven for 90 minutes at 120 degrees C (circulating air). At the bottom right you see moist granules and at the top left for comparison the already dried one with the lighter color.
After drying, I pour the granules into this tin bucket and seal it. Thus, the granules can not absorb moisture when cooling down.
After it has cooled down, cut a Coke bottle in two halves - one half serves as a funnel, the other as a ladle to refill the granules back into the bag.
To close the bag I use staples which usually hold paper sheets together. With that solution I can easily open the bag in a year and repeat the whole process.
