Ford Model A Pickup Restoration - Building New Wheel Covers Part 6 - Cutting, Welding, Grinding (August 2017)I can see a light on the horizon for my wheel hubs.
All parts for my wheel hubs are ready. I now have to cut the parts and bring them to the correct length.
Here they are ready for welding.
Everything fits together …
To hold the parts together I use strong magnets.
Now they can be completely welded.
After welding, I have mounted a wheel cover to the rim to see if everything fits.
Now comes a lot of grinding work …
Then, the outer radius is grinded. Left side of the picture before, right side after grinding.
To protect region beside the weld, I covered it with adhesive tape.
Looks not so bad, but has some regions with little notches.
So I do have to fill these notches with silver solder and have to grind again.
Fan sanders are usually not found in this round shape.
In order to get such a shape, clamp the fan grinder into a drill and hold it on a running grinding wheel. This allows you to adapt the shape as you need.
The wheel covers are now roughly grinded.
This is the first one with a finer grinding and it slowly begins to shine.
