Ford Model A Pickup Restoration - Carburetor and fuel petcock dripping … (November 2015)After the restoration of my Model A, I have to fix and improve some minor problems.
One morning I smelled some gasoline in my garage and the reason was my carburetor which dropped some gas. I wanted to fix that immediately. But even with closed gas valve it dropped to the floor, which means I have 2 problems …
First I disassembled my carburetor.
Then I took a closer look to these two parts. One is the float who was a little bit too close to the wall. The second part is the valve, which should stop the fuel flow but it did not close 100%.
Instead to straighten the float that it does no longer touches the wall, I took this from a replacement carburettor. The needle of the float valve I have twisted with a little bit pressure until it has passed my pressure test. Now I could reassemble it, but before I had to solve the second problem.
Although I have restored and sealed the original fuel valve, it still dropped slightly. I have now bought a reproduction part (on the right hand side).
The exchange is easy but first I had to remove the gasoline from the gas tank. Now everything is working perfectly and I have no more gas on the floor.
My other job is cleaning up the garage. On the picture you cannot see a real progress, but by the end of the year you should see more …
