Ford Model A Pickup Restoration - Refurbishment Seat Bridge - Board Rear Cab (September 2016)This month I started with the restoration of two accessories.
First, I'll make a 2 + 2 seat pickup like it was in the 40's when my grandfather has made his Sunday drive with the family.
The wood of the seat is still in good condition and only has to be restored. Therefore, I removed all screws.
4 hours of grinding were necessary to remove the top layer of weathered wood.
Now I can start with 2 coats of primer.
I wanted to put my grandfathers name somewhere on his car and the seat is the best place for. I have burned it with this old branding iron.
Now I added 3 layers of glaze (walnut).
The wood is looking like new.
The second accessory is the additional board that can be fixed behind the cab. This board protects the cabin rear wall, allowing better securing of the load with the top-mounted hooks. In the picture you can see the original parts but the wood is in a very bad condition.
At the car, the board is mounted in this position.
I could not find a board with the required width, so I have glued 2 of them with additional dowels.
To drill the holes in the center of the board, I have made this guide out of an aluminum sheet.
The boards are together and the glue must dry now.
The shape can be transfered.
Old and new board side by side.
Everything fits and the window opening is at the right place too.
Small cracks and the front side of the board are filled with plastic spatula. Actually it is ready for painting.
