Last month, I have protected the hood against scratches.
For this hood clip I've made some leather caps.
In the back of the picture you see the ones you can buy. First I have used these but after some open / close of the hood, they did not protect anymore and I had scratches on my hood. Since the hood corners are also made from leather, I decided to use leather for my self made versions too - see front of the picture.
I recommend to start with such a pattern (thin plastic or cardboard). Then you can transfer the shape to the leather. The used leather is 1 mm thick.
The sketches can be found here (in mm). I recommend to sew a prototype first and see whether it does fit or not. Depending on the hood clip (original or reproduction part) there may be differences in size and you have to adapt.
As soon as the first parts are cut, you can start with sewing.
I have folded the leather and fixed it with a clamp, which normally holds a paper stack. The stitches are 2 mm from the edge.
After the first versions are made and also do fit …
… I can continue with the rest. Before fixing it with some glue on the hood clips, I have mounted them for a week, so they had time to get it's final shape. Now I don't expect some future paint damage.
