In addition to the described task I did the planing of the main trunk boards.
What's left from this wooden board is no longer usable. Everything is rotten and I can hardly determine the original dimensions.
But first I have to build this U-section from steel which figures as an edge protection on both sides. Just heating up the iron slightly and bent it into the desired shape …
Just joking … I have to learn through practice too! As you can see I've produced a lot of waste until I had two pieces which were beautifully curved. I hat to improvise a little bit, but the easiest way is to bend a solid 4-square steel with the needed radius. It has to fit inside the U-section. Now heat the U-section and bend it over the 4-square steel.
Then I had to mill the edges so the steel parts fit.
To get some space between back wall and the board, this piece of ash wood is shaped to fit to the back side of the cabin.
This wooden part will now be screwed to the back side.
With the help of old pictures I was able to find the right position of the holes.
I fixed a paper strip to the back to check the position of the holes.
Opps … at the bottom there is not enough space - I have to remove some material.
Now I can mount the board with screws at the rear side of the body.
Next month I'll mount the side- and tailgates and see if everything fits.
